Dr. Md Shahinoor Islam

Founder and Head, ESRG

Md. Shahinoor Islam is a Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at BUET. He has significant contributions both nationally and internationally in the field of Environmental and Chemical Engineering. He exemplifies excellence in the profession with over 18 years of teaching and research experience, complemented by 3 years of practical experience in the process industry. His educational journey culminated in a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta, a testament to his commitment to advancing his knowledge and skills in the field. He has displayed a solid commitment to innovative solutions for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, e-waste and hospital waste management, and microplastic pollution abatement, focusing on pioneering technologies that can benefit worldwide. His remarkable research has been recognized with the Research Excellence Award in 2023 from Forum 86, BUET, highlighting the quality of his work and publications.

Dr. Islam's dedication to advancing the field is evident through the successful acquisition of multiple projects, including those from WARPO for the establishment of the Water Quality Index (WQI) through Principal Component Analysis for Dhaka-based Rivers, Bangladesh Chemical Engineering Forum (BCEF), the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the Ministry of Science and Technology. His extensive portfolio of 76 journal publications revolves around enhancing environmental conditions, energy generation, and sustainability, reflecting his passion for addressing critical global challenges. Beyond academia, Dr. Islam has bridged the gap between industry and education, sharing his invaluable experience and knowledge through workshops and webinars. His tireless efforts have enriched students' education and have also been a valuable resource for industries.

Hridoy Roy

Hridoy is an enthusiastic learner and young researcher who is currently working as a Lecturer at DChE, BUET. He has published more than 30 articles in several reputed journals. He has received "Bangabandhu Scholar 2022" from the Honorable Prime Sheikh Hasina for his excellent academic, research, and extra-curricular activities. Moreover, he received several recognitions from reputed organizations. He collaborated with Deutsche Welle to represent the E-waste scenario of Bangladesh. The current research of this young researcher includes the synthesis of biomaterials and nano-composite adsorbents. Recently, pyrolysis products, water quality studies, and microplastic pollution have become his research interests.

Ms. Nawshin Farzana


Muksit Ahamed Chowdhury

Muksit Ahamed Chowdhury is currently pursuing PhD (part-time) in Chemical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. He is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Textile Engineering at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology. He has completed his Master's in Textile Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, India, under the ADB-JSP Scholarship and his Bachelor's in Textile Engineering from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology. His primary research interest lies in Textile wet Processing, bioprocessing of Textiles, textile effluent treatment, and sustainability.

Mahfuza Pervin

Mahfuza Pervin is pursuing Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. She has completed Bachelor of Science in Textile Technology (Wet Process Engineering) from the University of Dhaka (former College of Textile Technology). She has passed Master of Science in Textile Engineering (Wet Processing) from Bangladesh University of Textiles. She has working experience in EOS Textiles limited (Savar, EPZ), Sinha Textiles Limited (Kanchpur, Narayanganj). She started her teaching career in the department of Textile Engineering at Primeasia University in 2011. Currently, she is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Textile Engineering at Primeasia University. Her research interest lies in color physics, wastewater treatment, and environmental engineering.

Burhan Kabir Shuhan

Lecturer, Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET

Md. Burhan Kabir Suhan is currently working as a Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the leading engineering university in Bangladesh. He completed his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from BUET on 27th February 2021 and secured 2nd position out of 63 students (Obtained more than 90% marks). He is a motivated, energetic, and confident chemical engineering graduate with a strong interest in research. When it comes to contributing to new ideas, he gets more and more enthused. His research interests and expertise are broadly classified as Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering. 

Tanzim-Ur-Rahman

Tanzim Ur Rahman is a graduate chemical engineer from the department of Chemical Engineering, BUET. He is highly motivated with a mindset for research and willingness to learn. His research interest is mainly based on chemical engineering with a focus on environmental engineering. Currently, he is working on a project to evaluate and enhance the photocatalytic properties of TiO2 based nanocomposites.

Foysal Mahmud

Foysal Mahmud is a Research Fellow and a full-time M.Sc. student at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He completed his B.Sc. degree in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (ACCE) in 2022 from Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU). His research interests include microplastic pollution, advanced oxidation processes, water quality parameters, wastewater treatment, pollution control and sustainability.

Israfil Alam Tito

Tito received his B.Sc.(Honours) in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Noakhali Science and Technology University.  The current research topic Tito is "Effectiveness of Electrocoagulation, and Sand Filtration process for river water: A pilot plant". Water's different parameters will be controlled by this continuous process to find an optimum condition and convert the river water into usable water for irrigation. His interest areas are Environmental Engineering and Nanomaterials.

Tabassum Sunjida Banhi

I am Tabassum Sunjida Banhi. I am a full-time M.Sc. student at the Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET. I have completed my B.Sc. in Applied Chemistry & Chemical Engineering from Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) securing 4th position. My current research work focuses on developing an efficient ternary photocatalyst to degrade wastewater contaminants by UV-radiation. My research interests are Wastewater Treatment, Sustainable Energy Production, and Batteries.

Sayeda Sonia Islam 

I've completed my BSc in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Noakhali Science and Technology University in 2020 with a CGPA of 3.57. Currently, I am pursuing my MSc in Chemical Engineering at BUET with a CGPA of 3.50. I am working on my thesis under the supervision of Dr. Md. Shahinoor Islam. My thesis topic is about dye degradation under UV-Irradiation by developing a biochar/zinc oxide /cobalt ferrite photo catalytic adsorbent. The main objective of this thesis is to study the performance of a laboratory synthesized ternary composite biochar/zinc oxide/cobalt ferrite (BC/ZnO/CoFe2O4) on a textile dye degradation.

Md. Rashid Al-Mamun is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST). Mr. Mamun has received M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He has completed his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from JUST and secured the first position in the Department. He also topped in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and has been awarded the prestigious Chancellor Gold Medal. He has done several research projects including domestic solar heating systems, dye-sensitized solar cells, electrochemical biosensor, and advanced oxidation processes. In the meantime, he has participated in various seminars, workshops, national and international conferences at home and abroad. Overall, he has published 22 journal publications and more than 20 national or international conference proceedings. Recently, he also has gained 650+ citations with 9 h-index and 7 i10-indexes at Google scholar.

Mahmudul Hasan Khan Neon is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at McGill University, Canada, with a focus on nanomaterials-aided advanced oxidation processes for environmental remediation. He holds M.Sc. and B.Eng. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology and the University of Malaya, respectively. On study leave from Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, where he served as an Assistant Professor, Neon previously taught at the Military Institute of Science and Technology. He actively contributed to a UGC-funded project, emphasizing innovative environmental advancements. Despite his tech fascination, Neon prefers hands-on approaches and has a hidden talent for sketching aliens.
